Sheri Fritz specializes in paleoecology, paleoclimate, and aquatic ecology, and her research uses fossil diatom records to reconstruct landscape evolution and past climate variation. She has a B.A. in Biology from Macalester College, a M.S. in Biology from Kent State University, and a PhD in Ecology from the University of Minnesota. Currently, she is the George Holmes University Professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. She has major long-term research projects in western North America and in the tropical Andes and Amazon Basin and has worked previously in Southeast Asia, Greenland, and northwest Europe. She has been carrying out research in Yellowstone since the early 1980’s, including paleoecological studies from small lakes in the Park and an investigation of the linkage between climate change and diatom evolution in Yellowstone Lake.
